How the Left Swiftboated America: The Liberal Media Conspiracy to Make You Think George Bush Was the Worst President in History

John Gibson has pulled together an excellent synopsis of what was a concerted effort to undermine the president of the United States. In the early 2000s, in the aftermath of 9/11, George W. Bush was a popular president. In the 2002 mid-term elections, the Republicans actually picked up seats in both houses of Congress. This is something which is rare in politics, as the party not in possession of the presidency usually has the upper hand. Democrats were facing the possibility of being out of power for, perhaps, a long time. Something had to be done to discredit Bush and, therefore, his party to help Democrats regain power. The left developed a comprehensive scheme to attack Bush directly, and indirectly, at all costs. The time period immediately following the 9/11 attacks would be the last time there would be cooperation between the parties. “How the Left Swiftboated America” is a comprehensive study of the key events which defined and undid the Bush presidency. The author, John Gibson, examines Bush’s reasons for going to war in Iraq, the circumstances surrounding the Katrina disaster in New Orleans and “torture” of 9/11 suspects among other things. The reader is also provided extensive background details of key media personalities, including Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart among others. Gibson demonstrates how media is filled with left wing zealots who contributed mightily to the dismantling of George W. Bush’s reputation. He also shows the hypocrisy within the anti-Bush rhetoric as many of the same voices simultaneously accused Bush of being an incompetent ignoramous and a ruthless conniving dictator. Gibson points out how most of the reasons Bush used for going to war were the same ones prominent Democrats had been trumpeting for years, yet Bush was accused of being a liar for using these very ideas. We learn of the incompetence of local Democrat leaders in New Orleans (the mayor) and Louisiana (governor) in properly executing an evacuation of the city prior to the hurricane which ultimately flooded the area. Yet, it was Bush alone who took virtually all of the criticism for the aftermath of Katrina. Not all of the evidence provided by Gibson is equally powerful; however, he makes an extremely persuasive case.

Those who always hated our former president will not be moved by Gibson’s work; some people have their minds made up and will not be swayed with facts. However, for those with a more open mind, “How the Left Swiftboated America” is an important read. After all, it was the deliberate effort by Democrats to undermine Bush which led to the takeover of Washington, D.C. by some of the most left wing politicians ever to hold such high offices. Bush’s undoing has directly led to a government takeover of healthcare, potential cap and trade policies and who knows what else to come. Had the left been less successful in dismantling Bush, the Democrats would have been far less likely to amass 60 seats in the Senate, a huge margin in the House and the presidency at the same time. Gibson’s book does not delve much into the economic side of the Bush presidency. For that story, I would recommend “Architects of Ruin” by John Schweizer, which is an outstanding expose’ of how our economy was mortgaged by government liberals to advance a social agenda, all while many of them pocketed millions of dollars in the process. Ironically, the economic collapse was also blamed on President Bush while many of those who had a much larger role in the mess now have prominent roles within the Obama Administration.

How the Left Swiftboated America: The Liberal Media Conspiracy to Make You Think George Bush Was the Worst President in History Overview

Bestselling author John Gibson shows that George W. Bush was the victim of a concentrated effort by Democrats and their allies in the press to discredit and distort virtually everything he did. That effort was amazingly successful.

Was George W. Bush really the worst president in American history? Was the Iraq War really the biggest foreign policy blunder of all recorded time? Did Bush really steal the 2000 election, make war on civil rights, torture innocent goatherds, and prove America’s racism during Hurricane Katrina?

If this is what you think, then you may have been swiftboated by the liberal media.

Swiftboating, as it has come to be defined by the left, is the political trick of claiming to expose the truth while in fact lying. The swiftboating of George W. Bush began in 2000 and continued throughout his presidency, involving his response to 9/11, the Iraq War, warrantless wiretapping, enhanced interrogation techniques, the Surge, uranium from Niger, the number of deaths in Iraq, the federal response to Katrina, and much, much more.

One only has to look at the charges leveled against the Bush administration by candidate Barack Obama to witness the success of this campaign. Obama ran for president and won on the left’s extensive catalog of lies about George W. Bush.

Moreover, once in office, Obama and the left continued to use these same techniques to swiftboat the Republican opposition. Obama constantly complained that he had inherited a “mess” in Iraq and blamed the “failed ideology” of free-market capitalism for the financial collapse that helped elect him. Meanwhile, his media allies attacked Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, the tea party movement, and the health-care protestors as “racists” for opposing Obama’s agenda.

In How the Left Swiftboated America, talk radio host and bestselling author John Gibson sets the record straight. Gibson shows that, in case after case across the board, Bush’s performance was much better than most people now believe. And he calls on all Americans to fight back and put an end to the swiftboating lies of the left.

Care and Maintenance of Your Erhu Bow

August 31st, 2010

While the quality of the your erhu bow greatly affects the tone your erhu produces, the condition of your bow is equally important in ensuring you get the best out of your erhu.

Here are some tips on how to maintain and care for your bow:

1. Keep the bow hair away from oil, grease, wax or soap.

Oily substances will reduce the ability of the hair to grab the strings, leading to uneven tone. Keep your fingers off the hair as well because the oil on your fingers might contaminate the hair.

2. Make sure there is enough rosin on the bow before playing.

You might damage the microscopic scales on the hairs of the bow if you do not apply enough rosin while you play. After playing for 1-2 hours, reapply rosin again.

3. Loosen the tension after use.

This is to preserve the shape and elasticity of the bamboo of the bow, particularly if you like to play with a high tension. However, a bow with a lower tension produces a better tone.

4. Clean off the rosin from the rod and hair and store it in a plastic cover if you are not going to use it for a long time.

5. Wash the hair with non-oil based shampoo

If the bow hair is dirty, oily and losing its grip, you can wash it with non-oil based shampoo. Avoid using oil based soap.

6. Change your bow at least once a year.

When you feel that the grab is diminishing despite your efforts to rosin and clean, the scales on the hair could have been damaged beyond repair. It might be time to change a new one. Professional erhu players change theirs every 6 months.

If you do not want to go through all the hassle, just buy new erhu bows to standby. They are very cheap compared to violins’!

Valuing Historic Environments Feature

Valuing Historic Environments Overview

This volume brings together an interdisciplinary team of leading scholars to discuss frameworks of value in relation to the preservation of historic environments. Starting from the premise that heritage values are culturally and historically constructed, the book examines the effects of pluralist frameworks of value on how preservation is conceived. It questions the social and economic consequences of constructions of value and how to balance a responsive, democratic conception of heritage with the pressure to deliver on social and economic objectives. It also describes the practicalities of managing the uncertainty and fluidity of the widely varying conceptions of heritage.

Easy Guitar Songs – 3 Super Easy Songs You Can Learn on the Guitar

August 29th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Let’s get right down to learning these easy guitar songs. Our top 3 come from the popular rock bands AC/DC, Deep Purple, and Nirvana. First, we’ll begin with the ever popular “Back in Black”.

1. Back In Back:

This song sounds the best in E, but some like it in F too. If you like it in F, just put your cappo on the first fret. The song goes like this…

E D A (beginning portion) – E D A A-G# A#-A B-A# C-B

Next, you’ll play the chorus which goes (E) A E B A-B, A E B A-B, G D A G-A, G D A G-A

A E B A-B, A E B A-B, G D D D. Then, start at the beginning again. This is a really fun and easy song to play. You don’t even need a Gibson SG like Angus Young!

Now let’s look at the first song I ever learned to play on the guitar. This is really probably the easiest guitar song ever.

2. Smoke On The Water:

This simple song goes like this A C D A C Eb A C D C A. Now just play this 6 times in a row, and you’ve completed the song. Can you believe that? They made a fortune with that song. I taught this to my cousin who’s 12 and he picked this up in about 15 minutes. You can do it too!

3. Nirvana About a Girl:

This song is simple and a fun one to play. Some people think this song is in A, but it’s actually supposed to be in Em. So, the entire song goes Em GEm Em GEm, over and over.

There you have it. 3 very easy guitar songs to play. You can figure all of these out in a couple hours. It amazes me everyday that some of the most popular songs ever are so easy to play. So, learn your own songs, write music and make it to the big time!
